That Chandra, an underdog from the minuscule oligarchy of Moriya, became the first sovereign monarch of India is irrefutably a magnificent accomplishment. And yet quintessence of his life story is not this, but incredulous journey from indomitable lust for revenge and ineradicable faith in no-bars-held, anything-for-a-win and all-is-fair-in-war ruthlessness to implicit disgust of power, renunciation thereof and death as a Jain monk by self-choice.
