The systematic branch of geography which deals with man’s culturally determined activities and especially with the differential impact of culture groups on the exploitation, form and personality of landscape. Cultural Geography is a subfield of Human Geography which focuses “upon the patterns and interactions of human culture, both material and non-material, in relation to the natural environment and the human organization of space”. Religion and geography is the study of the impact of geography, i.e., place and space, on religious belief. Another aspect of the relationship between religion and geography is religious geography, in which geographical ideas are influenced by religion, such as early map-making, and the biblical geography that developed in the 16th century to identify places from the Bible. A culture region is a portion of Earth’s surface that has common cultural elements. Identifying and mapping culture regions are significant tasks because they show us where particular culture traits or cultural communities are located. Cultural geography is probably is therefore best characterized as a living tradition of disagreements, passions, commitments and enthusiasms and best understood as a ‘style of thought’ interested in expanding and illuminating diverse geographies. Each chapter in the book is self contained and is consistent with the general aim of the book. At the end of each paper there is a list of references, recommended for further reading. No doubt, the articles given in this book and the rich list of references shall help the teachers, students and social scientists to understand and explore more in the field of cultural geography.
