EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Dr. K. Sivarajan, M.A., M.Ed., Ph.D., is Dean, Faculty of Education; Chairman, Board of Studies in Education (PG); and Chief Co-ordinator of University Teacher Education Centers, University of Calicut. He is a retired Professor of University of Calicut. He has 32 years teaching experience, out of these 12 years as Principal, University College of Teacher Education. Formerly he was Syndicate Member of Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University, Kaladi. He has written 27 books on education and most of these books are reference books for B.Ed. and M.Ed. courses of the Universities in Kerala. He is a recipient of Best Teacher Educator Award 2009 instituted by the Indian Counsel for Teacher Education and Dr. Ambedkar Fellowship 1997 instituted by Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Academy.

A concretely effective outcome is not possible until it goes through different phases of observation and study, especially the phase where philosophy plays an important role in making the thing worthy of meeting the needs. Pursuant to this, the book titled, Educational Philosophy, is written as an effective tool to fine-tune the crucial aspects pertaining to application of philosophy in imparting of education. Considering the tremendous changes in the teacher education curriculum of the D.Ed., B.Ed., and M.Ed. programmes and taking in view the dearth of textbooks, this book has been written following the B.Ed. syllabus for the subject. Besides, it can also be used for the D.Ed. and M.Ed. programmes as a useful reference book. The presentation of materials in it has been made learner-centred and examination-oriented. The utmost endeavour has been put to make this book an oracle that is worthy of meeting the needs of the students and the teachers.
