Summary: Samskara Winner of the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award and it former President, U.R.Anantha Murthy carved aniche for himself in the world of letter with his debut novel, Samskara, in 1965. He is one of India’s major contemporary writers having begged the coveted Bharatiya Jnanpeeth award and several other national and international honours. Samskara created quite a furore when it was first it ws first published in kannada. But over the years, it has been recognised as a modern classic novel that vividly presents a decaying Brahmin colony in a South Indian village through a contemporary poetic reworking of ancient Hindu themes and myths. Shakti Batra has been Vice-Principal, Dyal Singh College (University of Delhi). He has also taught at the Kabul University and the International University of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek as well as students from the Tibetan Public Service Commission, Dharamsala, and Kiynshu University, Japan.
