Environmental Education

There can hardly be a difference of on the need for Environmental Education in the schools, what wit the unfortunate environmental degradation that we are witnessing today. For this, however, we need knowledgeable and adequately trained teachers who understand the complexities of environment and educate the students about the hazards of environmental degradation and the need for environmental protection. In view of the deteriorating environment that we encounter today, there is a great need for highlighting the importance of safeguarding children's health through promotion of healthy environment. As is known, every year millions of children die from environmentally-related diseases. These children could be saved by creating healthy environs, be it at the home, the school or the community of which they are an integral part. Environmental Education will create awareness among children and facilitate their growth in a healthy home, school and community. One cannot dispute the fact that Environmental Education will serve as a springboard for raising awareness, stimulating debate and building the momentum for a national movement that tackles health risks in places where children live, learn and play. Environmental Education will enable every child to grow up in a healthy home, school and community. In fact, the future development of our children, and, of course, their world depends on their enjoying good health. For this to take place, however, the Environmental Education teachers need to be properly equipped with not only updated knowledge on environment but also effective strategies of teaching to drive home the message of environmental protection and conservation among the students. This book, Environmental Education, written according to the syllabi of Colleges of Education, makes a modest attempt to equip the student -teachers with the necessary inputs that can them into better and effective teachers of Environmental Education.
